Fletch Loving United Life...

Darren Fletcher is enjoying one of his finest seasons to date so far, and with a newly-signed three-year contract extension things couldn’t be much better for the Scottish midfielder.

The 24-year-old only started 11 games last season, but he has been included from kick-off on eight occasions already this term. He’s also scored two goals and turned in some commanding displays.

Sir Alex Ferguson says that Fletcher responds like the cavalry in times of need. And with injuries to Paul Scholes, Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick, Fletcher has picked up the reins and in typical fashion not let anyone down.

“It’s great,” he told MUTV. “We have a lot of great midfielders and last season games were hard to come by. I got a few injuries at the wrong time, but the form of Scholesy, Michael Carrick and Ando was such that it was hard to get into the midfield.

“There have been a few disruptions and injuries elsewhere in the midfield this season and I’ve managed to start a number of games. Once you get a run in the side you really start to enjoy yourself and your game improves because of that.”

His new contract, which keeps him at the club until at least 2012, is reward for his hard work and dedication.

“It’s a great honour when you sign a new contract here,” he said. “It’s a fantastic club, the best in the world.

"We’re Premier League champions and European champions and here you are always looking to retain those titles.

“There’s no place I’d rather be as long as I’m appreciated by the manager."

Fletcher was outstanding again as the Reds tore Blackburn apart at Ewood Park - a match that should have ended with a higher winning margin than the 2-0 scoreline.

For the Scot it was another start and further reason for him to be enjoying life at United. "I didn’t start as many games as I would have liked last season," he added, "but I had a good pre-season and I’m getting a run in the side and the new contract is great.”

I LOVE YOU FLETCHER...
